West Harwich, MA

West Harwich is a small town located in Essex County, Massachusetts. The population was 2,921 at the 2010 census. It is home to the West Harwich Historical Society Museum and the West Harwich Village Green.

The town was first settled in 1635 by English Puritans who named it after their home town of Harwich, England. The area was primarily agricultural until the late 19th century when it began to develop as a seaside resort due to its fine sandy beaches and clear waters. In 1892, West Harwich became an incorporated municipality.

Today, West Harwich is a popular tourist destination due to its picturesque villages and beautiful beaches. Its main commercial district features boutiques, restaurants, and inns along Ocean Avenue and Main Street. There are also several historic homes and businesses in the area including the Old Ship Store (now a museum), the West Harwich Inn (formerly known as The White House), and The Lighthouse Restaurant (which has been open since 1892).
