Cadiz, OH

Cadiz is a city located in the southwestern corner of Ohio. The population was 10,902 at the 2010 census. Cadiz is part of the Toledo metropolitan area and is adjacent to Lucas County.

The city's economy is based on manufacturing, health care, and real estate services. Manufacturing includes automotive parts and components, medical equipment, and plastics products. Health care includes hospitals, nursing homes, home health care agencies, and diagnostic laboratories. Real estate services include brokerage firms, real estate agents/brokers, title companies/agents/brokers, home builders/developers, mortgage bankers/lenders, and insurance companies.

Cadiz has a long history dating back to 1810 when it was founded as a small village on the banks of the Tiffin River by General James Winchester and his family. The village grew rapidly as settlers arrived from Kentucky and other states in search of land on which to establish farms or businesses. In 1853 Cadiz became an incorporated town with a population of 1,000 people. In 1872 Cadiz became a city with a population of 4500 people.

Today Cadiz continues to grow as new businesses locate in the city center while also expanding into adjacent neighborhoods such as Arlington Heights and Westgate Park which are situated just north of downtown along State Route 3 ( Ohio Turnpike). The growth has resulted in increased traffic congestion throughout the city center which has been addressed through various initiatives including construction of new roads (e.g., Riverside Drive), widening existing streets (e.g., Main Street), installation of traffic signals at key intersections (e.g., Broadway Avenue), development of public transportation options (e.g., RideLink bus service), redevelopment or expansion of parking facilities (e .g., City Hall Garage), creation or enhancement of parks (Westgate Park) ,and promotion or enhancement of downtown businesses . These efforts have helped improve access for residents while also supporting economic development opportunities for local businesses
