Sand Springs' Home Prices Continue to Rise

Sand Springs is a city located in Tulsa County, Oklahoma, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 18,912. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Area. The city is named after Sand Creek, which flows through it.

The first Europeans to visit what would become Sand Springs were members of the Osage Nation in 1796. The area was then part of the Cherokee Nation and was known as " Tulsa Town." In 1819, an American Fur Company post called Fort Gibson was established on the site that would later become Sand Springs. The fort served as a trading post for Native Americans and white traders until its closure in 1834.

In 1892, Colonel George W. Thomas established a ranch near present-day Sand Springs and began raising cattle there. He also built a small settlement called Thomasville to serve as his home base and headquarters for his operations. In 1907, Thomasville became incorporated as a town under the name " Sand Springs."

In 1911, oil was discovered near present-day Sand Springs and within a few years several large oil companies had set up operations in the area. The boom years for Sand Springs were from 1920 to 1930; during that time the population increased from 1,000 to 10,000 people. However, with the onset of World War II oil production declined and by 1950 only about 1% of what had been produced remained in production.

Today there are still many businesses based in Sand Springs that are involved in petroleum production or related activities; however, since 2000 most of these businesses have been replaced by services such as health care and education which have helped make Sand Springs one of Oklahoma's more prosperous cities.

Real estate has always been an important part of life in Sand Springs; since its earliest days it has been home to ranchers who have needed land for their cattle operations as well as businessmen who have needed space to build their businesses or homes.
