Sanford is a city located in Williamson County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 24,827. Sanford is the county seat of Williamson County and home to the University of Texas at Austin.

The city was founded in 1881 by John J. Sanford and named for him. The city grew rapidly as a center for cotton farming and oil production during the early 20th century. However, after the oil industry declined in the 1970s, Sanford began to experience economic difficulties. In recent years, however, Sanford has experienced a resurgence as a center for health care and technology businesses.
