Scottsdale is a city located in the northeastern corner of Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. According to the 2010 census, the population of Scottsdale was 205,821. It is home to many high-end luxury resorts and golf courses as well as popular shopping destinations such as The Fashion Square Mall and Old Town Scottsdale. The history of real estate in Scottsdale dates back to 1887 when landowner Charles Tatum platted the town site and named it " New River". In 1918, real estate developer J.C. Nichols renamed the town " Scottsdale" after his hometown of Scottsville, Kentucky. Early development centered around the creation of a water supply from the McDowell Mountains and the installation of electric streetlights and telephones. In 1927, an agreement was reached with Phoenix for joint jurisdiction over New River Valley; this arrangement continues today through a special district called The Village at Old Town Scottendale which includes all or part of all six municipalities in New River Valley: Carefree, Cave Creek Village, Desert Hills Village (formerly known as Northsight), Fountain Hills Village (formerly known as Southsight), North Mountain Village (formerly known as Westgate) and Troon North (formerly known as Troon South).

In 1941, Paradise Valley was annexed by Scottsdale and in 1957 Tempe became part of Scottsdale after a vote by residents. In 1960–61 eastern portions of Paradise Valley were annexed by Scottsdale creating what is now called Eastlake Community Area; this annexation was reversed by voters in a referendum held two years later.

Today's real estate market in Scottsdale is characterized by high demand for luxury properties along with low vacancy rates due to stringent zoning regulations that limit new construction within certain areas near major attractions such as The Fashion Square Mall and Old Town Scottsdale. Average asking prices for single family homes range from $500K to over $5 million while condominiums average $300K-$1 million per unit
