Garfield, AR

Garfield is a small town located in the northwest corner of Arkansas. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. It is home to the Garfield County Fairgrounds and the Garfield County Courthouse.

The town was founded in 1881 by J.D. and Mollie (Baxter) Garfield, who named it for President James A. Garfield, who had been assassinated just two years earlier. The Garfields were early settlers in what would become Northwest Arkansas, and they operated a general store and post office until 1902 when J.D.'s son-in-law, W.H. "Bill" Boyd opened a hardware store which continued to operate until 1984 when it was sold to Royce Sitton's son, Ronnie Sitton Jr., who renamed it R&R Hardware & Auto Parts Ltd.. In 1992 Ronnie Sitton sold the business to his son Randy Sitton who continues to operate it today as one of the largest independent hardware stores in Northwest Arkansas with over 100 employees..

In addition to its hardware store, R&R also operates an automotive repair shop and a full service gas station with convenience store which has been family owned and operated since 1970..

The town's economy is based largely on agriculture with cotton being the primary crop grown; however there has been an increase in tourism due to its proximity to several state parks including Hot Springs National Park, Devil's Den State Park, Lake Ouachita National Forest and Mount Magazine State Park as well as being within driving distance of Little Rock and Fort Smith..
