Jasper, AR

Jasper is a small town in the Ouachita Mountains of northwest Arkansas. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Jasper is located in Carroll County at (35.926944, -92.569444).

The town was founded in 1871 and named for General James E. Jasper, a hero of the Mexican-American War and governor of Arkansas from 1868 to 1870. The town's economy was based on agriculture until the early 20th century, when it became a center for timber production and tourism due to its natural beauty and proximity to Hot Springs National Park. Today, Jasper is primarily a residential community with businesses providing services such as groceries, hardware stores, restaurants, banks and medical clinics.

Real estate in Jasper is dominated by single family homes built between 1920 and 1970; most are two or three stories tall with well-maintained yards and porches. Many of these homes are now owned by retirees who enjoy living in an area that retains much of its rural character despite being only 25 miles from downtown Little Rock. There are also some newer developments including apartments and condominiums that cater to young professionals and families who want to live close to amenities but without having to deal with traffic congestion or noisy neighborhoods.
