Prescott, AR

Prescott is a city located in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States. According to the 2010 census, the population of Prescott was 66,719. The city is the county seat of Yavapai County and is adjacent to the town of Prescott Valley. The city's name comes from John C. Frémont, who named it for General George A. McClellan, who had just won a decisive victory over Confederate forces at Antietam in Maryland on September 17, 1862.

Prescott has a warm desert climate with hot summers and mild winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Prescott has a hot desert climate, abbreviated "BWh" on climate maps.

The economy of Prescott is based largely on tourism and agriculture with some light manufacturing also present in the area. The major tourist attractions are Mount Lemmon Ski Resort (just east of town), Oak Creek Canyon National Preserve (west of town), and Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park (northwest of town). Agricultural products include cotton, hay, citrus fruits and vegetables as well as wine grapes grown in nearby Sonoita and Flagstaff counties. Manufacturing includes aircraft parts for Boeing Co., medical equipment for Stryker Corp., solar panels for First Solar Inc., and other small businesses located throughout the city or in neighboring towns such as Kingman and Sedona

Prescott was founded by John C Fremont on September 17th 1862 after his victory at Antietam against Confederate forces which led him to name it after General George A McClellan who had just won this decisive victory over Confederate forces Fremont chose this site because it was near two important trails that crossed through what would become Prescott - one leading west to California via Mount Lemmon while another ran north towards Fort Defiance near modern-day Page AZ Today these trails are known as Highway 89A & 89B respectively In 1864 gold was discovered along Cabin Creek just outside Prescott which started what became known as The Gold Rush era in Arizona This event caused an influx of people into Prescott which increased its population from 1 thousand residents when Fremont founded it to around 10 thousand by 1875 when mining activity slowed down After 1875 Prescott's population slowly grew until World War II when military personnel stationed all over Arizona were brought into town resulting in an even larger population increase which reached 25 thousand by 1950 Since then there has been a gradual decrease due to suburbanization but currently there are still around 26 thousand people living within the city limits
