Burney, CA

Burney is a small town located in Mendocino County, California. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Burney is known for its scenic coastline and picturesque downtown area. The town's economy is based largely on tourism, with visitors drawn to the area's natural beauty and quaint shops and restaurants.

The first Europeans to visit Burney were members of the Spanish Portolà expedition in 1769. Burney was first settled in 1852 by James Burns, who built a sawmill and general store on the banks of the Russian River. The town began to grow rapidly after the arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1887, and by 1910 it had a population of 1,500. In 1915, Burney became an incorporated city.

Today, Burney is a popular tourist destination with many bed-and-breakfasts and vacation homes situated along its picturesque coastline. Many local businesses are also based around tourism including several restaurants that specialize in seafood dishes such as clam chowder and crab cakes. The downtown area features several antique stores as well as boutiques selling locally made crafts such as pottery and quilts.
