Fairfax, CA

Fairfax, California is a city located in Northern California. The population of Fairfax was estimated to be around 101,000 as of the 2010 census. The city is located about 20 miles east of San Francisco and about the same distance north of Los Angeles.

The city was founded in 1871 and named for General John C. Fremont, who explored much of California during the Gold Rush era. The city's economy has traditionally been based on government services and defense contracting, although the recent growth in technology and biotechnology has led to a more diversified economy.

Fairfax is home to several major corporations, including Northrop Grumman Corporation, Raytheon Company, Lockheed Martin Corporation, General Dynamics Corporation and Boeing Company. In addition, many small businesses provide local employment opportunities.

The City of Fairfax operates under a council-manager form of government with a mayor and four council members elected by district from single-member districts every two years. Council members serve four-year terms with no term limits. The mayor serves a two-year term with no term limits.
