Orinda is a small town located in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 17,643 at the 2010 census. It is located in the San Francisco Bay Area and is approximately 30 minutes from downtown San Francisco.

The history of Orinda can be traced back to 1868 when two brothers, Charles and Henry Witheridge, purchased Rancho Laguna de los Palos Verdes from Juan Jose Castro for $7,000. In 1874, Charles Witheridge sold part of his share to his brother-in-law Samuel Brannan for $10,000. In 1888, Samuel Brannan subdivided his land into lots and founded the city of Orinda. The name " Orinda" was derived from a town in Spain called Orinde which means "a place of rest".

Today, Orinda is a thriving community with many businesses and attractions. The main industries in Orinda are technology and biotechnology companies. There are also many restaurants and shops in the area.
