Rifle, Colorado is a town located in the eastern part of the state. The population was 2,821 at the 2010 census. It is situated on U.S. Route 6 and State Highway 9, about halfway between Denver and Cheyenne, Wyoming.

The town was founded in 1879 by settlers from Kansas Territory who were looking for a place to raise cattle and crops. The first post office opened in 1880 with the name of " Rifle." The town's name was changed to Rifle because it sounded more western-like than "Kansas City."

There are several businesses located within the town limits that provide services such as grocery stores, banks, restaurants, gas stations and hardware stores.
