The Price of Home in Lakeside, CT

Lakeside is a small town located in Litchfield County, Connecticut. The population was 2,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Torrington- Lakeside-West Hartford, CT Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The town of Lakeside was first settled in 1798 by Ebenezer and Betsey (Paine) Peck. The town was named for its location on Lake George. The original settlement consisted of a few houses and a sawmill on the banks of the lake. In 1802, Lakeside became incorporated as a separate town from West Hartford.

In 1824, John Lovell purchased the land that would become Lakeside Village and began to develop it into an upscale residential area. He built several large homes including Lovell Hall which still stands today and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

During the late 19th century and early 20th century, Lakeside experienced significant growth due to its proximity to New York City and Boston. Many wealthy families moved to Lakeside to enjoy its peaceful surroundings and beautiful lakeshore estates. This period of growth also led to significant changes in the character of Lakeside Village with many Victorian era homes being replaced by more modern structures.

Today, Lakeside remains a popular residential area with many well-maintained homes situated on spacious lots overlooking scenic Lake George or Long Island Sound. It is also home to several notable businesses including two hospitals (Lake George Hospital & Sacred Heart Medical Center), two golf courses (The Links at Lake George & Fox Meadow Golf Club), two yacht clubs (Lake George Yacht Club & The Sagamore Yacht Club), two restaurants (The Boathouse at Lake George & The Landing at Long Island Sound), two art galleries (The Gallery at Lake George & Water Street Arts Center), and two luxury condominiums complexes ( Lakesides on Long Island Sound & Waters Edge).
