West Hartford is a city in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 50,890. It is the most populous municipality in Hartford County and the eighth most populous city in Connecticut. The city is located about 10 miles (16 km) west of downtown Hartford and is part of the New England metropolitan area.

The area that became West Hartford was first settled by Europeans in 1636 as part of Windsor. The town was incorporated on October 12, 1784 from parts of Windsor and Bloomfield. In 1806, it became a separate town after splitting from Windsor due to religious differences between its Protestant majority and Catholic minority. The town's economy was based on agriculture until the early 20th century when it began to develop into a suburban community with a growing number of high-rise buildings. In recent years, West Hartford has been experiencing growth due to its proximity to downtown Hartford and its many amenities such as schools, shopping centers, parks and recreation facilities.
