Avon Park, FL

Avon Park is a city located in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 9,827. It is part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg- Clearwater metropolitan area.

Avon Park began as a small farming community in 1892 and was incorporated as a town in 1912. The city's name honors Avon Products Company founder George W. Avon and his wife Flora Belle (née Denton). The company built its first plant in Avon Park in 1926 and continued to grow there until it moved its headquarters to New York City in 1986.

Today, Avon Park is home to many large businesses including Ryder System Inc., which operates one of the largest truck rental fleets in North America; Kimberly-Clark Corporation; and SunTrust Banks Inc., which has two corporate offices within the city limits. In addition, several medical centers are located within the city limits including Baptist Health South Florida and St Joseph's Hospital Tampa Bay Area Campus.

The economy of Avon Park is based largely on services and commerce with a significant portion of jobs being supported by business services such as banking, insurance, engineering consulting and technology companies such as IBM Corporation (formerly International Business Machines). There also exists a strong industrial base with companies such as 3M Company (formerly Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing), Coca Cola Bottling Co., Inc., FMC Corporation (formerly Federal Machine & Tool) and Valvoline Instant Oil Change all having operations within the city limits or employing local residents.

The real estate market within Avon Park has seen steady growth over recent years due to an increasing demand for quality housing stock from both families looking for suburban living close to major employment centers as well as retirees seeking affordable housing options close to their favorite activities or amenities such as golf courses or parks.
