Englewood is a city located in Broward County, Florida. The population was estimated to be 103,000 as of the 2010 census. Englewood is a suburb of Fort Lauderdale and is part of the Miami metropolitan area.
The city has a long history dating back to 1892 when it was founded as an agricultural community by George Engle and his brother-in-law, John F. Hinson. The city's name honors Charles Henry Engel, who was Broward County's first sheriff. In 1909, Englewood became a municipality and in 1916 it annexed land from neighboring Lauderhill Township. In 1925, the City of Sunrise merged with Englewood; this created what is now known as the Sunrise-Lauderhill- Boca Raton Metropolitan Area (SMBRA).
