Lake City is a city located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 14,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lakeland- Winter Haven Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Lake City has a long history as a center for agriculture and commerce. The city was founded in 1876 by John Wesley Lummis and named for Lake George, New York. In 1892, the town had its first railroad connection when the Tampa and Gulf Railroad arrived. The city's economy was based on agriculture until World War II, when it became a center for military production. After the war, the city's economy diversified into manufacturing and service industries.
