Vernon, FL

Vernon is a small town located in Hillsborough County, Florida. The population was 2,715 at the 2010 census. Vernon is known for its real estate market and has been ranked as one of the top ten towns in Florida to buy a home. The town's economy is based on agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism.

The land that now comprises Vernon was first settled in 1825 by James and John Dickson. In 1853, the railroad came to Vernon and the town began to grow rapidly. By 1890, Vernon had a population of 1,500 and it became an incorporated city in 1901. The city's economy was based on agriculture until World War II when manufacturing began to take hold. Today, Vernon is still primarily an agricultural community but has seen significant growth in tourism due to its proximity to Tampa Bay and Walt Disney World Resort.
