West Point is a small town located in the northwest corner of Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area.

The town was founded in 1828 by General James Oglethorpe and named for Fort Washington, which had been built nearby two years earlier. The original settlement consisted of a few log cabins and an earthworks fortification. In 1829, Oglethorpe laid out a grid plan for the town and by 1830 it had a population of about 100 people. A post office was established in 1830 and West Point became an incorporated municipality in 1853.

The early economy of West Point depended on agriculture and manufacturing; however, during the late 19th century it developed into a major transportation hub due to its location on the Western & Atlantic Railroad (later part of the Southern Railway). Manufacturing continued to play an important role in West Point's economy through the 20th century; however, since 2000 most jobs have been in service industries such as health care and education.

Today, West Point is still primarily an agricultural community; however, there has been significant growth in businesses related to transportation and logistics such as UPS Airlines Worldport (formerly Delta Air Lines Cargo) and FedEx Ground. There has also been growth in technology companies such as Atlassian Corporation (formerly Jolt Software) and Cumulus Media Corporation (formerly Clear Channel Communications).
