Bloomingdale, IL

Bloomingdale is a small town located in Cook County, Illinois. The population of Bloomingdale was 10,927 as of the 2010 census. Bloomingdale is located in the northwest corner of Cook County and is bordered by Mc Henry County to the north, west and south, and Kane County to the east.

The history of Bloomingdale can be traced back to 1836 when settler John Burchard platted a town on land that he had purchased from the state of Illinois. The first businesses in Bloomingdale were a blacksmith shop and a general store. In 1851, Bloomingdale became an incorporated village with a population of 1,000 people.

Today, Bloomingdale is known for its quaint downtown area which features many historic buildings dating back to the early days of the town. The downtown area includes several shops and restaurants as well as two public squares: Town Square Park and Fountain Square Park. There are also several parks located throughout the town including Veterans Memorial Park, Central Park (home to an ice rink), Heritage Hill Park (a park dedicated to local history), Rosehill Cemetery (one of Chicago's oldest cemeteries), and Glencoe Cemetery (home to many famous residents including author Louisa May Alcott).

The main commercial thoroughfare in Bloomingdale is North Broadway which runs through the heart of downtown. Other major streets in Bloomindale include East Broadway (which runs through eastern parts of town), West Broadway (which runs through western parts of town), South Broadway (which connects North Broadway with Highway 20), Main Street (the main street running through central parts of town) and Monroe Street (which connects Main Street with Highway 22). There are also several side streets that run throughout Bloomindale including Maple Avenue, Elm Avenue, Pine Avenue, Cedar Avenue and Willow Road.
