Havana, IL

Havana, Illinois is a small town located in the southern part of the state. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Havana is home to several businesses and organizations related to real estate.

The Havana area was first settled in 1836 by Peter Wirth and his family. The town was originally called Wirthsville after the founder. In 1853, the town was renamed Havana after Cuba. The name change likely occurred because of anti-Spanish sentiment during the Mexican-American War.

The early economy of Havana depended on agriculture and lumbering. However, by 1900, most of these industries had declined or ceased operations. Today, Havana is primarily a residential community with a few businesses related to real estate.
