Nauvoo, IL

Nauvoo, Illinois is a city that was founded in 1839 by Joseph Smith and his followers. The city quickly became a major religious and commercial center in the Midwest. In 1846, Nauvoo was besieged by a large army led by General Brigham Young. After a long and bloody siege, the city was destroyed and most of its inhabitants were killed.

Today, Nauvoo is an interesting tourist destination because of its unique history and architecture. The city is home to several historical sites, including the Joseph Smith Memorial Building (the former home of the Prophet Joseph Smith), the Masonic Temple (one of the largest masonic temples in North America), and the Nauvoo Temple (the oldest surviving temple in Illinois). There are also several restaurants and shops located in Nauvoo that offer visitors an opportunity to purchase souvenirs or eat local food.
