Sandwich is a small town located in Mc Henry County, Illinois. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. Sandwich is located at 41°5′N 88°24′W / 41.083°N 88.417°W / 41.083; -88.417 (41.08327, -88.41715).

The town of Sandwich was founded in 1833 by John and Phoebe (Phelps) Sandford and was originally called Phelpsville after its founder Phoebe Phelps. In 1837, the town was renamed to Sandwich after the Earl of Sandwich who had recently died and left an estate valued at over £20,000 (approximately $3 million today). The first post office opened in 1837 with James Haines as the postmaster.

Today, Sandwich is a small town that is known for its antique shops and apple orchards. The downtown area features several businesses including a bank, grocery store, pharmacy, hardware store, restaurant and barbershop/beauty salon. There are also several churches in the town including First Presbyterian Church which was built in 1865 and Saint John's Episcopal Church which was built in 1889.
