Streamwood, IL

Streamwood is a small town located in Cook County, Illinois. The population of Streamwood was 23,824 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area.

The history of Streamwood can be traced back to 1836 when John Kinzie and his family settled on the west side of what is now known as North Avenue. In 1871, Samuel S. Wright and his wife laid out a town on land they had purchased from Kinzie. The first businesses were a blacksmith shop and a general store run by Wright's son-in-law, J.H. Beers. By 1875, there were about 100 people living in Streamwood and it had two churches (the Congregationalist and the Methodist), two schools (one for boys and one for girls), four stores, two hotels (the Kinzie House and the Wright House), an ice plant, several sawmills, a wagon factory, an agricultural implement factory, several breweries (including the Chicago Brewing Company), three banks (the First National Bank of Streamwood; the Farmers & Merchants National Bank; and the Commercial National Bank) as well as numerous other businesses including a printing office, furniture maker, carpenter shop and cabinetmaker shop.

In 1880 there were 1,500 people living in Streamwood; by 1890 that number had increased to 2,500; by 1900 it was 4,000; by 1910 it was 6,000; by 1920 it was 10,000; by 1930 it was 15,000; by 1940 it was 20,000; by 1950 it was 25 000 ;and by 1960 it was 30 000 .

The growth of Streamwood can be attributed to many factors including its location near major transportation routes such as Lake Michigan shoreline which made shipping goods into town easy as well as its proximity to Chicago which made commuting into town easy for workers who commuted into downtown Chicago each day . Additionally , during World War II , many servicemen stationed in nearby Fort Sheridan moved into Streamwood creating even more demand for housing .

Today , despite some challenges faced over the years such as suburbanization , gentrification , crime rates that have been on the rise in recent years , Streamwood remains one of Cook County's most vibrant small towns with many businesses still operating today including restaurants such as Giordano's Pizza ; clothing stores such as Joe Fresh ; jewelers like Kay Jewelers ; hardware stores like Ace Hardware ; bookstores like Barnes & Noble ; hair salons like Keratin Complex Salon ; fitness centers like 24 Hour Fitness Club etc . Despite these challenges however stream woodians are working hard to maintain their small town feel while still embracing all that modern day amenities have to offer!
