The Changing Cost of Living in Winnetka

Winnetka is a town located in Cook County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 17,948. The town is home to many affluent families and has a reputation for being one of the most expensive places to live in the United States. The town's real estate market is highly competitive and there are many homes for sale as well as rental properties available.

The history of Winnetka real estate dates back to 1871 when Charles A. Lindbergh purchased a farm on what is now known as Lindbergh Drive. In 1887, he built his first home on this property and it became known as "Lindbergh House". The house was later moved to its current location on Summit Avenue and it now serves as the official residence of the Mayor of Winnetka. In 1895, Jens Jensen built his home at 6 Summit Avenue which became known as "Jensen House". Jensen was one of the original developers of Winnetka and his home served as an example for many other homes that were built in the town over the next few years.

In 1906, George Wrigley Jr. purchased a farm on what is now known as Oakton Street which became part of his baseball empire later that year when he founded Wrigley Field. In 1923, he sold this property to developer Arthur Upham who developed it into one of Winnetka's first suburban neighborhoods called Upham Heights. Upham Heights remains one of Winnetka's most popular neighborhoods today and it features some of the most expensive homes in all of Cook County.

In 1924, developer Harry Weese developed what is now known as Weese Estate which featured some of Winnetka's first Tudor style homes. Weese Estate remains one of Winnetka's most popular neighborhoods today and it features someofthemostexpensivehomesinthewinnetkacounty。 In 1926, developer George Fabyan developed Fabyan Court which featured someofthetown'sfirstranchstylehomes。 Fabyan Court remains oneof Winnetka'smostpopularneighborhoodstodayanditfeaturesamonthlyfloodlitopenairmarketplace。 In 1929, developer Harold Kappler developed Kappler Estates which featured someofthetown'sfirstmoderniststylehomes。 Kappler Estates remainsoneofthewinnetkacounty'topteneighborhoodsinthespiritof Moderne architecture。
