Demotte, IN

Demotte is a small town located in the northwestern part of Indiana. The population of Demotte was just over 1,000 as of the 2010 census. The town is located on U.S. Route 31 about halfway between Indianapolis and Chicago.

The history of Demotte can be traced back to the early 1800s when settlers from New York and Pennsylvania began to arrive in the area. The first settlement in what would become Demotte was called Uniontown, and it was founded in 1806 by a group of settlers who were looking for land that they could farm. Uniontown quickly grew and by 1810 had a population of more than 100 people. In 1818, Uniontown merged with another settlement called Springville to form the town of Demotte.

Demotte has always been an agricultural community, and during its early years it was primarily known for its wheat production. However, over time the town has diversified its economy and now relies heavily on tourism as well as manufacturing and business services industries.
