Waterloo, IN

Waterloo is a city located in the southern part of the state of Indiana. The population was 38,569 at the 2010 census. Waterloo is the county seat of Blackford County.

The city was founded in 1836 and named for Waterloo, Belgium, site of a decisive battle in the Napoleonic Wars. The first settler in Waterloo was Jesse Bledsoe. He built a cabin on what is now known as Bledsoe Hill and started farming. In 1839, he sold his farm to John Witherspoon and moved to Louisville, Kentucky.

In 1841, another settler, John Brownlee, arrived in Waterloo from Tennessee and started farming on what is now known as Brownlee Hill. He also served as postmaster for several years. In 1851, he sold his farm to James Meeks and moved to Indianapolis.

The town grew slowly until after the Civil War when it began to experience rapid growth due to an influx of people looking for new opportunities. This growth continued through the early 20th century when many factories were built in Waterloo because of its close proximity to Chicago and Indianapolis. However, this growth has slowed since then due to competition from other cities such as Fort Wayne and Evansville which have been able to attract businesses with lower taxes rates than Waterloo has been able to offer over the years.

Today, there are still many businesses located in Waterloo because it has good transportation links both within Indiana and with neighboring states such as Illinois and Michigan which makes it easy for companies to get goods delivered quickly without having to cross state lines or deal with traffic congestion which can be quite severe during rush hour periods in larger cities like Chicago or Indianapolis.. There are also many residential areas located within the city limits that are popular among families who want suburban living without having too far away from all of the amenities that a large city can offer such as shopping malls , movie theaters , etc.. .
