Archer is a small town located in Pottawattamie County, Iowa. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Archer is home to the historic Archer Opera House and the Arrowhead Golf Course.
The town of Archer was founded in 1872 by Alonzo and Addie (Foster) Archer. The Archers were early settlers in what would become Pottawattamie County and played an important role in its development. They built a mill on the Des Moines River and operated it until 1898. The mill produced flour, lumber, shingles, and other products for local markets.
Archer is located at 41°4′N 92°21′W / 41.7000°N 92.3600°W / 41.7000; -92.3600 (41.726944,-92.399972). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1 km²), all of it land.[2]
