Aurora, IA

Aurora is a city located in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 12,827. It is the county seat of Johnson County.

The city was founded in 1851 and named for Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. The first post office opened on November 2, 1851. The city grew rapidly after the arrival of the railroad in 1868 and incorporated as a town in 1870. It became an incorporated city in 1886.
