Cedar Rapids is a city located in Iowa. The population of Cedar Rapids was 189,868 as of the 2010 census. Cedar Rapids is the most populous city in Iowa and the seventeenth most populous city in the United States. The city is located on the banks of the Cedar River, which forms its eastern border.

The first settlers arrived in what is now Cedar Rapids in 1833. The city was founded on February 8, 1836, by John L. Leonard and Elisha Cady. Leonard had been part of a group of settlers who had traveled from New York to explore potential land holdings in Iowa Territory. Cady was a surveyor for Leonard and helped him to lay out the town site.

Cedar Rapids grew rapidly during its early years due to its location on the frontier and its proximity to major transportation routes such as the Erie Canal and railroads connecting Chicago and Omaha. By 1850, Cedar Rapids had become one of the largest cities in Iowa Territory with a population of 2,000 people. In 1856, Cedar Rapids became an incorporated municipality with a population of 10,000 people.

During the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, Cedar Rapids experienced significant growth due to its role as a center for agriculture and manufacturing goods such as farm machinery and automobiles. This growth led to increased demand for housing which put pressure on available resources such as land and water supplies. As a result, many new neighborhoods were developed throughout Cedar Rapids during this time period including Northtown (1892), University Heights (1906), Westdale (1910), Eastdale (1911), Northridge (1920), Southeastown (1922), Southwestown (1924)and Hillside Village(1945).

The economic recession that began in 2007 caused significant damage to many parts of America including Cedar Rapids where unemployment rates rose above 10 percent for several years after 2007-2008 recession ended . However , since then ,the economy has started recovering gradually and unemployment rates have started declining although they are still high compared to other cities . Nevertheless , there has been some positive news lately about job growth especially within sectors like health care .

Despite these challenges ,the City Council has made efforts over recent years to improve public safety , expand economic opportunities through initiatives like attracting new businesses and developing partnerships with community organizations In addition ,the City Council has also made efforts towards improving infrastructure such as updating streetscapes , repairing sidewalks etc . These investments will help make life more comfortable for residents while also supporting economic development . Overall I think that despite some challenges CedarRapids continues to be an attractive place to live , work or invest .
