Colesburg, IA

Colesburg is a small town located in Coles County, Iowa. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Coles County.

The town was founded in 1856 and named for General James K. Cole, who fought in the Mexican-American War. The first post office opened in 1857.

The economy of Colesburg is based largely on agriculture and related industries, with some light manufacturing also present. The town has a public library, two churches (one Protestant and one Catholic), a grain elevator, and several businesses that provide services to local farmers and ranchers.
