Fremont, IA

Fremont is a small town located in southeastern Iowa. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Fremont is home to the Fremont Municipal Airport and the Fremont Historic District.

The history of Fremont can be traced back to 1839 when John and Elizabeth Cady settled on a tract of land near what is now downtown Fremont. The town was founded in 1872 when railroad officials decided to build a station here. The town grew rapidly as farmers and merchants arrived to take advantage of the railroad's presence. By 1900, Fremont had a population of 1,500 and boasted two churches, three stores, two hotels, and a post office.

Today, much of the character of Fremont remains unchanged despite rapid growth in the early 20th century that saw the construction of several large businesses including an ice plant and flour mill. Today, there are still several businesses located in downtown Fremont including an antique store, bakery, bank branch, barbershop/beauty salon combo business (which also offers daycare), law office (with satellite office in Council Bluffs), restaurant (serving breakfast & lunch), gas station/convenience store combo business (with ATM), and two hardware stores. There are also several homes for sale in downtown Fremont as well as many single-family homes throughout the town which makes it an ideal place to call home!
