The Changing Face of Milford: Trends in Home Prices

Milford is a small town located in southeastern Iowa. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. Milford is home to the Milford Municipal Airport and the historic Milford Opera House.

The history of real estate in Milford can be traced back to 1892 when J.D. Pritchard established a general store on Main Street. In 1902, Pritchard sold the store to A.W. Halsey who began developing land around the store into residential lots and constructing homes for sale. By 1906, Halsey had constructed several homes on what is now known as "Halsey Heights". In 1909, Wm Soper purchased Halsey's interest in the development and continued to build homes until 1916 when he sold out to C.E. Browning who also operated a grocery store on Main Street from 1912-1916 before selling out to Jno Fenton in 1918 who built several more homes before selling out in 1923 to Rufus Burtis who developed much of what is now known as " Burtis Park".

In 1925, Burtis sold his interest in Milford Real Estate Company which he had founded and by 1930 had developed over 1,000 acres of land into residential subdivisions which he marketed under the name " Burtis Park". The company continued operations until 1966 when it was acquired by John Fenton Jr., son of Rufus Burtis who reorganized it as " Fenton Realty Company" and continued operating it until 1978 when it was sold to its current owner, Tom Kuehnle Jr..

Today, there are over 100 properties listed with Fenton Realty Company including single family residences, condominiums/townhomes, commercial properties (including restaurants and retail stores), and industrial properties (including warehouses). The company has an extensive marketing program which includes print advertising (both local newspapers and regional magazines), online listings (including both their own website and those of other real estate companies), social media outreach (including Facebook pages and Twitter accounts), direct mail campaigns targeting specific demographics (such as retirees or first time homebuyers), door-to-door sales efforts within designated neighborhoods/ developments, special events such as open houses or neighborhood block parties where potential buyers can tour properties with representatives from Fenton Realty Company),and even mobile app features that allow users to search for specific types of housing (such as apartments or single family homes) using their smartphone's GPS capabilities .
