Montezuma, IA

Montezuma is a small town located in Sac County, Iowa. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Sac County.

The first settlers arrived in Montezuma in 1836. The town was named for Montezuma II, the last Aztec emperor. Montezuma is located on the east bank of the Mississippi River and is adjacent to Fort Madison, Iowa.

Today, Montezuma is a thriving community with a strong economy based on agriculture and manufacturing. The town has several businesses including a grain elevator, a meat packing plant, and an ethanol plant. There are also several churches and schools in Montezuma.
