Riverside, IA

Riverside is a city located in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 21,827. Riverside is the county seat of Johnson County and home to the University of Northern Iowa.

The city was founded in 1854 and named for its location on the banks of the River Des Moines. The railroad arrived in Riverside in 1868 and helped spur growth. The city's economy was based largely on agriculture until the 1950s, when it began to experience rapid growth as a result of its proximity to the University of Northern Iowa. Today, Riverside is an important center for business and education in central Iowa.
