Westside, IA

Westside is a small town located in Johnson County, Iowa. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is home to the Westside Community School District and the Westside Christian Church.

The town of Westside was founded in 1871 by settlers from Illinois. The first settler, James P. Hargrave, built a cabin on what is now known as Hargrave Street. The town grew slowly at first, but it began to take off after the railroad was built through it in 1883. At that time, Westside became a major shipping point for agricultural products and lumber.

Today, Westside is still an agricultural community; however, it has also become a popular tourist destination due to its close proximity to Des Moines and its many historic sites. These include the Old Capitol Building in Des Moines (which is now used as a museum), Fort Des Moines (a military fort dating back to 1814), and the Lincoln Home National Historic Site (where Lincoln spent part of his childhood). Additionally, Westside is home to several wineries and breweries, making it one of Iowa's wine-producing regions.

Westside has experienced steady growth over the past few years; this can be attributed in part to its many amenities – including excellent schools – as well as its location near major metropolitan areas such as Des Moines and Ames. As such, there are currently several new homes under construction or planned for development in Westside; this should continue to support growth over the next few years
