Green, KS

Green, Kansas is a small town located in the Flint Hills of western Kansas. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Green is home to the world's largest collection of antique cars and motorcycles.

The history of Green can be traced back to 1872 when a group of settlers from New York City arrived in the area and founded what would become known as "The Village". The village was renamed Green in 1875 after Dr. James A. Green, who donated land for a school and churches. In 1886, a post office was established and by 1890, there were enough people living in Green to form a town government.

In 1907, the first brick commercial building was erected in Green and by 1910, there were enough businesses operating in the town to warrant its own newspaper - The Weekly Herald. In 1922, an electric power plant was built in Green which provided electricity for both homes and businesses until 1957 when it was replaced with a gas-fired plant.

Today, much has changed since Green's early days as a small farming community; however, one thing that remains constant is the strong commitment of its residents to their community and its traditions. This commitment is evident not only through the many civic organizations that exist in town - such as Rotary Club International District #54760 (which has been serving Greens since 1924), Kiwanis Club (established 1909), Lions Club (1924), American Legion Post #5 (1941) - but also through the many businesses that have been established over the years: J&J Tire & Auto Service (since 1954), Kwik Trip (1960), McDonalds (1971). It is clear that residents of Green are proud of their town and its history - which is why they continue to support local businesses even after they've moved away from home or retired.
