Norwich's Home Prices Continue to Rise

Norwich is a small town in Sedgwick County, Kansas, located about halfway between Wichita and Topeka. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. Norwich was founded in 1872 and named for Norwich, England.

Norwich is home to several businesses and industries, including a printing plant operated by Quaker Oats Company; a Ford dealership; an agricultural company that produces hay; and a meatpacking plant. The town also has two churches (the United Methodist Church and the Presbyterian Church), a post office, three grocery stores, two banks (one of which is the only bank in town), four restaurants (including one drive-in), two gas stations/convenience stores, one hardware store, one ice cream shop/cinema theater/barber shop, one motel/motel complex with 30 rooms and six cottages (the Village Inn), one park with playgrounds and tennis courts as well as an annual 4th of July parade.

The real estate market in Norwich is generally stable with modest price increases or decreases over time. There are several reasons for this stability: most of the housing stock is older homes that have been well-maintained; there are few new developments being constructed; the population growth rate is relatively low; and many residents commute to work in Wichita or Topeka. In recent years there has been some interest in purchasing property in Norwich due to its proximity to Wichita's growing downtown area as well as its rural setting.
