Ama is a small town located in the Ouachita Mountains of northeast Louisiana. The population was just over 2,000 in the 2010 census, but it is projected to grow to over 5,000 by 2020. The town's economy is based largely on agriculture and tourism. However, there has been a recent trend of real estate development in Ama.
The first real estate development in Ama took place in 2007 when the owners of the Ama Inn began developing a small subdivision called "The Villages at Ama." This subdivision consisted of six homesites and sold for an average price of $130,000. In 2009, the owners of the Ama Inn began developing another subdivision called "The Villages at Ama II." This subdivision consisted of twenty homesites and sold for an average price of $225,000. In both cases, these subdivisions were developed as part of a master-planned community that includes amenities such as a clubhouse, pool, tennis court and playground.
In 2011, developers started developing another subdivision called "The Lakes at Ama." This subdivision consists of thirty homesites and sells for an average price of $275,000. Like The Villages at Ama II and The Villages at Ama, The Lakes at Ama is part of a master-planned community that includes amenities such as a clubhouse, pool and tennis court.
In addition to real estate developments within the town itself, there are also several developments located outside the town limits that are marketed specifically towards residents living in or visiting Ama. These include:
1) A golf course development known as "Lakewood Golf Club" which opened in 2013 and features eighteen holes designed by noted golf course architect Tom Fazio; 2) A resort hotel known as " Amajac Resort & Spa" which opened its doors in 2016; 3) A luxury condominium complex known as "Cascade Place" which opened its doors in 2017; 4) A mixed-use development known as "Village Landing" which features retail space along with residential units; 5) And finally 6) An eco-friendly housing development known as "Green Acres" which opened its doors in 2018
