Haughton is a small town located in the southwestern corner of Louisiana. The population was just over 1,000 people as of the 2010 census. The town is situated on the banks of the Red River and has been a shipping and trading center since the early 1800s. Haughton was founded by John Haughton, who purchased 640 acres of land from the Spanish government in 1802. He built a sawmill and gristmill on his property and began to trade with local Native American tribes.

The town grew slowly until after World War II, when it experienced a boom due to its location on the river. Many people moved to Haughton to work in the mills or in related businesses. In 1950, Haughton became an incorporated city.
