Hester, Louisiana is a small town located in the parish of East Baton Rouge. The population was just over 2,000 people in 2010. The town is situated on the banks of the Red River and has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s.

The first settlers in Hester were French Creoles who arrived in 1806. The community was originally called "Pointe Coupée" after a point on the river where several boats could land simultaneously. In 1810, a group of Americans settled near Pointe Coupée and named their settlement " Hester." A post office was established in Hester in 1812 and remained open until 1907.

The early economy of Hester depended heavily on agriculture. Cotton was king in this part of Louisiana and farmers grew crops such as cotton, corn, wheat, sugar cane, and rice.
