Lakeland, LA

Lakeland, Louisiana is a city located in the southwestern corner of the state. The population was 25,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Shreveport- Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The city was founded in 1881 and named for Lake Pontchartrain, which lies to its north. The first settlers were farmers who arrived from Arkansas and Texas. Lakeland's economy was based on cotton production until World War II, when it became a center for aircraft manufacturing. The city has since diversified into other industries, including oil and gas production and tourism.
