Saint Landry, LA

Saint Landry is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. The parish seat is Opelousas.

The parish was created on December 5, 1837, from parts of Evangeline and Lafayette parishes. It was named for Louis-Philippe, duc de La Rochefoucauld-Liancourt, who had recently died.

The economy of Saint Landry is based on agriculture and forestry products; however, there has been recent growth in the service sector as well as small businesses due to increased tourism in the area.
