Chesapeake City, MD

Chesapeake City is a small town located in Prince George's County, Maryland. The population of Chesapeake City was 9,811 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The history of Chesapeake City can be traced back to 1696 when Captain John Smith and his crew landed on the shores of what is now known as Smith Island. The town was founded in 1781 by General George Washington and named for his friend, Charles Calvert, 3rd Baron Baltimore. In 1814, Chesapeake City became a part of the newly formed United States after being purchased from Lord Baltimore by General Andrew Jackson.

1) The National Aquarium - This world-renowned aquarium offers visitors an opportunity to explore more than 20 million gallons of salt water and freshwater habitats that feature more than 2,000 species of fish and other aquatic creatures.

3) Historic Stonewall Inn - This historic inn was once frequented by Ulysses S Grant during his time as general during the American Civil War. Today it offers guests a chance to experience firsthand history dating back to 1773 when it served as a tavern for British soldiers stationed in America during the Revolutionary War.

4) The Bay Bridge Pavilion - This pavilion features exhibits on maritime history including artifacts from shipwrecks found off the coast of Maryland and Virginia.

5) The Eastern Shore Railroad Museum - Located just outside town near Crisfield Station this museum showcases restored locomotives and cars from throughout eastern North America dating back to 1853.
