Delmar, MD is a town located in the eastern portion of Montgomery County, Maryland. The population was 21,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The town was founded in 1792 and named for Pierre Samuel Delmar, a French diplomat who served as Minister to Russia under Napoleon Bonaparte. The town was incorporated in 1859.
The economy of Delmar is based on retail sales and services. There are also several manufacturing plants located within the town limits. The largest employer in Delmar is Lockheed Martin which employs 1,500 people locally. Other major employers include JB Hunt Transport Services and Medtronic plc which both have 500+ employees each.
