Randallstown, MD

Randallstown is a town located in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 21,898. Randallstown is a suburb of Washington D.C., and is part of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area.

Randallstown was founded in 1792 as a small crossroads settlement on land donated by George Randall III. The town grew rapidly in the early 1800s as it became an important transportation hub for farmers and merchants who supplied goods to Baltimore and Washington. In 1851, Randallstown became one of the first towns in Maryland to be connected to the railroad system when the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad built a line through town.

Today, Randallstown remains an important commercial center with a diverse economy that includes government services, health care, manufacturing, and education. The town's main thoroughfare is U.S. Route 1 which runs through downtown from east to west. Several major retail stores are located along this corridor including Target Corporation (which opened its first store in America in Randallstown), Kohl's Department Store (the largest department store chain in Maryland), Home Depot (the second largest home improvement retailer in America), CVS Pharmacy (one of the nation's leading pharmacy chains), and Starbucks Coffee Company (one of America's leading coffee retailers). Other major businesses located in Randallstown include Comcast Corporation (the nation's largest cable television company) and Lockheed Martin Corporation (the world's largest defense contractor).

The residential neighborhoods within Randallstown are characterized by single-family homes built between 1950 and 1990 which typically range from 2-4 stories tall with yards ranging from small patches of grass to large gardens containing trees and flowers. Many of these homes are occupied by families who have lived in Randallstown for generations or who have moved there recently because it is close to both work and shopping opportunities.
