Silver Spring, MD

Silver Spring is a city located in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 27,098. It is part of the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria metropolitan area. The city's name comes from its silver springs which were discovered in 1751 by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

The city has experienced steady growth since its incorporation in 1903 and has seen significant development since the 1990s with new housing developments and businesses moving into the area. Silver Spring is home to many high-tech companies including Microsoft, Google, AOL and Intel as well as several government agencies including NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and National Institutes of Health. The city also has a large retail sector with major anchors such as Target and Macy's located within its boundaries.
