Taneytown is a small town located in Montgomery County, Maryland. The population was 10,827 as of the 2010 census. Taneytown is home to the Taneytown State Hospital and the Taneytown Historical Society Museum.

In 1814, James Buchanan purchased land in what would become known as Buchanan's Addition. The town of Taneytown was founded in 1851 and named after Chief Justice Roger B.
