Barnstable, MA

Barnstable is a town located on Cape Cod in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. The population was 13,827 at the 2010 census. Barnstable is home to the Hyannis Port area, which includes many of the town's businesses and residences. Barnstable is also home to several beaches including Wellfleet Beach, Nantucket Beach, and Hyannis Port Beach.

The town of Barnstable was first settled in 1629 by English Puritans who named it after their home village of Barnstaple in Devon, England. The town was incorporated in 1785 and became a popular summer resort for wealthy New Englanders during the 19th century due to its temperate climate and close proximity to Boston. In 1892, Barnstable became one of the first towns in America to install electric streetlights.

Today, Barnstable is a popular tourist destination with many year-round residents as well as seasonal visitors from around the world due to its beautiful beaches and charming villages. The economy of Barnstable is based largely on tourism with a significant portion of jobs in hospitality and retail sales related to this industry. The primary commercial areas within Barnstable are located along Route 6A (the " Hyannis Port Road"), which runs through downtown Hyannis Port; Route 28 (the " Nantucket Road"), which runs through central Nantucket; and Route 6 (the " Wellfleet Road"), which runs through Wellfleet Village on Cape Cod Bay.
