Haverhill, MA

Haverhill is a town in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 31,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boston metropolitan area.

The town of Haverhill was first settled in 1639 by English Puritans who were fleeing religious persecution in England. The town was officially incorporated on October 12, 1798. The early settlers were farmers and millers who built mills along the Merrimack River to power their businesses.

In 1853, Haverhill became one of the first towns in America to have a railroad station. The Boston and Maine Railroad built a line through Haverhill that connected Boston with points north and west. This helped spur development in the town because it made it easier for people to get to marketplaces and other businesses throughout New England.

Today, Haverhill is an important commercial center in eastern Massachusetts. It is home to several large companies, including Fidelity Investments and TD Banknorth/Bank of America/Merrill Lynch. These companies have helped make Haverhill one of the wealthiest towns in Massachusetts.

The primary housing stock in Haverhill consists of single-family homes and apartments. There are also a number of condominiums and high-rise buildings located throughout the town.

Haverhill has a variety of shopping options available to its residents. There are several large chain stores located within walking distance of each other on Main Street (the main commercial artery through the town). Additionally, there are several small businesses that offer unique products and services not found elsewhere in eastern Massachusetts."
